The Power of
Layer Masks

This is a RAW image, which I have open using two different kind of settings. The other one do have blue cast and the other warm yellow.

Next I drag yellow image on the top of blue and did add luminosity effect we learn in chapter 5.

I made duplicate of it and use hard light and saturation layer modes.

I took rectangle selection tool and made selections in the mask of yellow cast layer. My image was still 24 bit mode and not all the filters weren't in use. but I like to keep it big and choose filters I found. First I add fibers and noise.

The I made next selection in the middle start playing with flaming pear filters ( India ink, Glare, Mr Contrast and SolarCell.

The Helmet

This is also RAW image.

I opened two versions of it. In the other version I just look highlights and adjust settings looking them. The other version, where the settings has adjusted looking just dark areas. The dark version is set to the top layer and it's having luminosity mask of highlight areas. That way we can see highlight areas from the layer below it. I also add slightly s-curve and a little sharpening using USM.
